Dear Black Woman,

You weren’t wrong to want better from your adults as a child. You weren’t wrong for wanting to be seen and heard even though you were little. Your mental health mattered even then! I know some days still get hard, still seeking that love and approval from your parents. But, look at you! Still here! Still making a life for yourself no matter how tough it gets. You got this!

They didn’t know how to care for you because you’re too gifted. Let those gifts speak louder than the disrespect. Let your gifts shine brighter than the abuse. Let your gifts overpower the depression and anxiety that you feel. Please give yourself grace as you figure things out. Please be gentle with yourself as you heal the wounds you didn’t inflict. You deserved better, that’s true.

I challenge you to be the one that loves you the most, that’s true sees you at your darkest and your brightest and still loves you just the same. I challenge you to set boundaries with those who play with your mental and your emotions. You get to choose how the rest of your story is written. Let it be one of overcoming, healing, grace, forgiveness of yourself, and finding your way. If no one else has told you, I’m so proud of you! You’ve come so far! Even when it feels like you haven’t done anything at all you have done so much! If getting out of bed is your only accomplishment today because you really didn’t feel like it I’m proud of you for that too!

You are worthy and deserving of love, patience, kindness, grace, forgiveness, abundance, wealth, happiness and joy no matter what your childhood looked like, no matter what the adults told you.

They were projecting their own insecurities.

Take back the pen!

With Love,

Khia Glover
