Healthcare should work for everyone, but too often, gaps in access and representation leave entire communities behind. In a system where disparities persist, Dr. Nadine Spring is driving change. As the founder of SpringWell360 LLC, she is reshaping clinical research by advocating for diversity, accessibility, and health equity. With a mission to educate and empower underserved communities, Dr. Spring ensures that Black and Caribbean individuals are included in critical medical advancements.

The Inspiration Behind SpringWell360

Dr. Nadine Spring’s journey into clinical research began with a simple question: Who is being left out? After earning a degree in biology and entering the field, she quickly noticed that many clinical trials lacked Black and Caribbean participants. This absence raised concerns about the effectiveness and safety of medications for these communities.

A defining moment came while working on lupus clinical trials. Given that lupus disproportionately affects Black women, she was struck by the lack of diversity in research participation. This realization led her to establish SpringWell360—a company dedicated to increasing awareness, bridging the knowledge gap, and ensuring that underrepresented communities have access to life-changing clinical trials.

Overcoming Challenges and Stepping Into Leadership

Like many entrepreneurs, Dr. Spring faced significant challenges, with imposter syndrome being one of the toughest. She questioned whether she was the right person to lead these conversations. However, she soon realized that her lived experience and expertise made her uniquely qualified.

"I’ve walked this path, faced these challenges, and gained the knowledge—there’s no one better equipped to lead these conversations," she affirms. Embracing this truth empowered her to take on leadership with confidence, knowing that her voice is essential in addressing inequities in healthcare.

Dispelling Myths and Building Trust in Clinical Research

Dr. Spring acknowledges the valid mistrust in clinical research within Black and Caribbean communities due to historical injustices, such as the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. However, she works to educate communities on the safeguards now in place and the benefits of participation.

"Many fear being ‘guinea pigs’ in clinical trials, but participants actually receive enhanced medical oversight, regular check-ins, and access to groundbreaking treatments," she explains.

SpringWell360 also ensures that research materials are written in accessible language and include diverse imagery to foster trust and representation.

Innovative Strategies for Health Equity

SpringWell360 isn’t just about awareness—it’s about action. Dr. Spring has developed educational courses that equip both professionals and patients with essential knowledge. These programs address gaps in training, offering practical education for those looking to impact health equity.

Additionally, she prioritizes cultural competency in clinical trials, advocating for bilingual materials and inclusive outreach initiatives that make research more accessible.

The Power of Community and Mentorship

A strong believer in mentorship, Dr. Spring attributes much of her success to an online sisterhood community. Through this network, she exchanges insights, gains encouragement, and collaborates with other Black women navigating entrepreneurship.

"When one of us wins, we all win," she emphasizes. This philosophy extends to her work, where she fosters collaboration and mentorship among aspiring clinical research professionals.

Balancing Business and Personal Life

Running a business while managing personal and family responsibilities is challenging. Dr. Spring prioritizes scheduling dedicated time for family and self-care.

"The mom guilt is real, but blocking out ‘me time’ is essential," she shares. Whether it’s exercising, taking walks, or listening to music, she ensures that self-care remains a priority.

The Future of SpringWell360

Looking ahead, Dr. Spring envisions expanding SpringWell360’s reach and impact. She plans to grow her educational courses, collaborate with more institutions, and position the company for acquisition by an organization that can further amplify its mission.

Her ultimate goal? To create a future where clinical research and healthcare are truly equitable, ensuring that all communities—especially Black and Caribbean populations—have a seat at the table.
