A Journey Through Beats and Boldness
Chaz Cunningham-Coggins—known professionally as DJ Lady P—is more than a music curator; she’s a culture shaper, a healer through sound, and a force of joyful disruption. From her early years in the vibrant music scenes of California to her current home in Texas, DJ Lady P’s journey is rooted in rhythm and resilience. Her DJ sets blend music, purpose, and empowerment in a way that transforms any room she enters.
But her path hasn’t been linear. For Chaz, music became both a refuge and a platform. After navigating personal loss, health challenges, and reinvention, she channeled her passion into a full-time calling—using turntables, storytelling, and sisterhood to uplift others, especially women.
The Birth of DJ Lady P
Born and raised in California, Chaz was exposed early to the power of music across genres—gospel, hip-hop, R&B, soul, funk, and house. She was the girl always singing, dancing, and soaking in the storytelling of sound. Yet, life’s responsibilities called her into other careers: business, hospitality, and event production.
It wasn’t until later, after decades of working behind the scenes and supporting other artists, that Chaz stepped fully into her own spotlight. “DJ Lady P” was born out of a mix of grief, determination, and spiritual nudging. Losing her mother and several close relatives pushed her to stop playing small.
Armed with a controller and a commitment to be seen, she started performing at women’s empowerment events, community festivals, private parties, and healing-centered spaces. Audiences didn’t just dance—they connected.

A Vibe That Moves More Than Feet
DJ Lady P is known for her vibe-forward approach. She doesn’t just play records—she reads the room, curates intentional soundscapes, and crafts emotional journeys. From nostalgic throwbacks to fresh remixes, her sets are guided by feeling, flow, and freedom.
She’s especially passionate about working with women-centered brands, nonprofit organizations, and wellness collectives. Whether spinning for a brunch series or DJing a retreat for survivors of trauma, she views music as a bridge—linking joy and release.
“I believe music is medicine,” she says. “It has the power to heal what words can’t reach.”
Community and Sisterhood on Every Stage
One of DJ Lady P’s core missions is to create space for Black women to feel seen, heard, and celebrated. She often performs at events that amplify self-love, healing, and creativity—bringing energy and intention to everything from vision board parties to panel discussions.
In 2023, she launched The Lady P Experience, a curated series of pop-up DJ sets, audio storytelling projects, and collaborations with women-owned businesses. The goal? To create immersive experiences that elevate community joy and inspire connection.
Chaz is also a mentor. She encourages aspiring DJs—especially women over 40—to explore music as a second act. “You’re never too late,” she tells them. “You just need the right beat to start.”
Healing Through Rhythm
Beyond the performance aspect, DJ Lady P’s work intersects with wellness and trauma recovery. As someone who has experienced deep personal loss and chronic illness, Chaz uses music to process emotion and foster resilience.
She’s collaborated with therapists and healers to design sound-centered workshops and meditative playlists. From guided movement sessions to intentional sound baths, her work proves that DJing can be both sacred and celebratory.

The Business of Being P
Chaz is also a savvy entrepreneur. She manages her own brand, handles client bookings, creates content, and promotes events with the skill of a seasoned producer. As a Black woman in an industry often dominated by men, she’s carved her own lane—centered in community, creativity, and courage.
She credits much of her success to staying aligned with her values. She doesn’t just take gigs—she chooses partnerships that reflect her purpose and elevate her people.
Looking ahead, she hopes to expand The Lady P Experience into other cities, partner with wellness retreats, and one day launch a platform that trains mature women to DJ as a healing and creative outlet.
